Here are a few photographs that stand out for me from 2017. I selected these for the experience I enjoy remembering while taking the photographs as much as anything.
I spent quite a few early mornings walking down the local Motueka beach (The Kumeras) watching the sun rise. Photography was my excuse to take some time to be alone. Moments like these when the ripples in the sky matched the ground felt like magic to me.
While I enjoy photography for allowing me to be alone, I love even more connecting with people through my photography. It allows me a window into the life of someone else. I see different places, products, people and lifestyles. This was taken for Karen Walker designed MEO face masks aimed at the Chinese market where fresh New Zealand air is a novelty. The fibers are from sheep farmed on this spectacular Central Otago farm. The fibres were developed by sheep genetics expert, Andy Ramsden...
Whenever I come back to the Top of the South Island, I realise how visually stunning it is here. I've been inspired to take landscapes of the region this year more than ever.
I did enjoy the commercial work photographing amazing houses,
tasting local product,
and taking the family with on fun outings...
Talking of family, it's always a highlight photographing the kids doing what they love to do.
Here's looking forward to 2018!
